Telecommunications Dispute Resolution Limited (TDRL) welcome the release of the Draft Report on the Commerce Commission’s 2024 review of the Telecommunications Dispute Resolution Scheme (TDRS). The draft report is available on the Commission's website.
“It is pleasing to see that both the Commerce Commission report, and the accompanying expert report from cameron. ralph. khoury (CRK), acknowledges the positive work of the TDRS and the significant efforts by the TDRL Board, the Telecommunications Forum (TCF), and participants to implement the 2021 recommendations. We will be working through the review findings in the coming weeks and will work proactively with the Commission and our stakeholders to respond to the recommendations,” said TDRL CEO, Herman Visagie.
The draft report contains a number of further recommendations, with a notable emphasis on continued work to raise awareness and improve accessibility of the scheme. The report expressed support for sector wide membership of TDRS, noting that over 200,000 consumers (approximately 11% of consumers) are not currently able to access TDRS as their providers are not participants in the scheme.
TDRL and the Commission remain focussed on ensuring all consumers of telecommunication services in New Zealand are provided with a dispute resolution scheme that is accessible, independent, fair, accountable, efficient, and effective. We look forward to working with all our stakeholders to continue to evolve the scheme to support both the industry and consumers.
